2013 NHL Playoffs: Senators to face Canadiens in first round

By beating the Boston Bruins in the regular season's final game, the Ottawa Senators moved up to seventh place and gave the Northeast Division crown to Montreal, setting up the first-ever playoff matchup between the Sens and Canadiens.

It came down to the wire, but the Ottawa Senators finally know their first-round playoff opponent: The Montreal Canadiens. Due to a buttload of events taking place at the Bell Centre, the schedule is a bit of a mess. It should look a bit like this, according to various reports (mostly from @SunGarrioch) on Twitter:

  1. May 2, 2013: Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens
  2. May 3, 2013: Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens
  3. May 5, 2013: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators
  4. May 7, 2013: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators
  5. May 9, 2013: Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens (if necessary)
  6. May 11, 2013: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators (if necessary)
  7. May 12, 2013: Ottawa Senators @ Montreal Canadiens (if necessary)

All games will be on CBC.

We'll have more coverage of the series in the next few days, but for now you can check out this The Hockey News preview that actually favours the Sens in the matchup!

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I'm pretty stoked for the first-ever playoff matchup between the Habs and Sens. It'll be a fast series with a lot of excitement and no shortage of passion on both sides. Should be great.
