Sens re-sign Patrick Sieloff to a 1-year extension
Sieloff is bound for Belleville to shore up the team’s depth on left defence
The Ottawa Senators announced that Patrick Sieloff — the defender brought over in the Alex Chiasson trade last offseason — has been re-signed to a one-year, two-way contract. He’ll be making a modest AHL salary of $90,000; the contract has an annual value of $650,000 in the NHL.
In his first season with the Senators organization, the 23 year-old played 52 games to match his AHL career high while improving his point total by 1 (12) from his 2015-16 totals (11) with Stockton (CGY). The Sens decided to qualify Sieloff, an RFA, in June while Alex Chiasson did not receive a qualifying offer from the Flames.
A second round pick (#42) in 2012, Sieloff’s stock has fallen from a player who represented the U.S. at the U17s, U18s, and U20s. He suited up for one NHL game with Calgary in 2015-16, scoring a goal, but is unlikely to spend time with the Senators this season. Rather, look for him to play on the second or third pair in Belleville behind Ben Harpur and Andreas Englund.
