Welcome to the 2024 NHL Free Agency! The Ottawa Senators have opened things up by trading defenseman Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Nick Jensen and a 2026 3rd-round pick.

Additionally, the club has signed forward Noah Gregor to a one-year deal worth $850k.

Upon being acquired at the 2023 Trade Deadline in exchange for two second-round picks and the 12th-overall pick in 2023 from the artist formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes, Chychrun was expected to provide a major boost to Ottawa's defense corps, but the fit just wasn't right. An impressive 14 goals and 27 assists this past season were nullified by defensive lapses and a lack of support from Ottawa's right-handed defencemen. Said issues were exactly why GM Steve Staios was desperate to add a quality RHD, and Jensen, 33, is likely to be at least a serviceable partner for Thomas Chabot or Jake Sanderson.

Jensen tallied 1 goal and 13 assists for Washington this past season.
