More All Star Sens in the NHL and AHL!

It’s a quiet week for the Senators as they embark on their bye week but the league doesn’t take a break and neither do our weekly links and news.

We all heard the great news last night about Brady Tkachuk taking Auston Matthews’ spot on the All Star team. However, we should never forget about our promising youngsters down in Belleville. With Drake Batherson and Rudolfs Balcers already making the AHL All Star team, it was announced yesterday that Josh Norris was a late addition to the team.
Following the theme of All Star games, the NWHL released their All Star jersey and they are good, really good. It still amazes me that the NHL was not able to settle on a more interesting design but alas I will leave you to enjoy these beauties instead.
The NHL has finally got its team in Seattle but what about their arena? Construction has begun on the new arena that is looking to be quite spectacular and is planning to host the hockey team, a women’s basketball team as well as concert events. The arena will be sponsored by the Alaska airlines which will make for a catchy home name. The team is set to be officially born in the 2021-2022 season and the excitement around the new arena is apparent.
Everyone gets excited about the Olympics every four years, but what about the youth Olympics? A tournament to prepare the most promising young athletes around the world for the big stage. A chance to showcase their talents and give them confidence. While the event doesn’t get the massive coverage of other tournaments, it is interesting to follow on some of the main events taking place. From a hockey perspective, the men’s team was able to secure a bronze medal against Finland after falling to Team USA in the semi finals. Team USA and Team Russia will now square off for the gold medal in what should be a very exciting game. On the women’s side, history was made with Team Japan beating Team Sweden for the gold medal game. If this kind of accomplishment does not glow with promise about growing the game of hockey, I don’t know what else can.
A few days ago, Ottawa favourite Stuntman Stu released a brave video announcing that his leukemia has returned. Stuntman Stu has been a cornerstone for the Ottawa Senators and the Ottawa community alongside his mark on the popular radio station Magic 100. While the news is difficult, we all know that Stu has a lot of fight in him and this time around he will beat it for good. On behalf of the entire Silver Seven staff, I would like to extend our well wishes to Stu, Connie and the entire Schwartz family. You are all very strong and you have the entire city’s endless support. Stay Strong Stu./
