Andreas Englund Named to Team Sweden for Euro Hockey Tour
The Sens prospect was named to the men's team for the annual four-team tournament.
Ottawa Senators defensive prospect Andreas Englund, currently playing for Djurgårdens IF in the Swedish Hockey League, has been named to Team Sweden for the Euro Hockey Tour games between Sweden and Finland. The EHT is an annual hockey tournament between four national men's teams: Czech Republic, Russia, Finland, and Sweden. The tournament is often used as a chance for younger players to get valuable international experience, and possibly to even stake their case for the national team at the World Championships.
Englund was the captain of Sweden's U20 team at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships. Evidently he impressed enough at the tournament to be invited to demonstrate his skill on a larger international stage. It had been rumoured that fellow Sens prospect Mikael Wikstrand would also get a look for Team Sweden once he'd signed a loan deal to play with Färjestads HC, but with very few games under his belt this year it looks like only his partner, Magnus Nygren, got invited.
The Sweden-Finland games take place February 11 and 13 in Örebro and Stockholm, Sweden.
