Anthony Duclair Signs 1 Year Extension

It’s a $1.65m contract for the deadline acquisition

Getting out ahead of qualifying offer season, the Senators have re-signed Anthony Duclair to a one year, $1.65m contract.

After joining the Sens as part of the Ryan Dzingel return, Duclair put up 14 points in 21 games after only 19 points in 53 games with Columbus. While it was just 21 games, his post-trade production in Ottawa was the highest pace of his career to date and was done mostly at 5 on 5, with only 3 power play goals.

On the flip side he was also shooting at 20% in Ottawa without an expected goals rate much higher than his career average, so his level of production may see a decline back towards his previous levels next season.

For on-ice numbers the Senators saw a noticeable improvement at both ends with Duclair on the ice as compared to with him on the bench, with a fairly even zone deployment.

In other contract news, the San Jose Sharks have come to agreement with Erik Karlsson on an eight year deal reportedly worth over $11m per year, which means Ottawa will receive the Sharks 2021 2nd round pick.
