Belleville Senators Reveal Jerseys
The black and white jerseys resemble the Senators’ heritage classic
The Belleville Senators held their jersey launch event this morning at the Bay of Quinte Mall, where fans got a first look at jerseys, met players, and had special visits from many members of the staff.
After the logo was revealed last month to resemble the Heritage O from the parent club, the expectation was for the jerseys to be similar to Ottawa’s Heritage Classic third jerseys. That’s exactly what we got, as the black and white jerseys will be the official uniforms for the Belleville Senators.
Chief operating officer Rob Mullowney stated the jerseys are “inspired by the city of Belleville, inspired by the Bay of Quinte, and inspired by [their] partnership with the Ottawa Senators.” The team will also wear a shoulder patch featuring the logo for the city of Belleville.
The jersey further increases speculation for a full rebrand for the Ottawa Senators, which we are already seeing in progress. The jersey won’t see light in the NHL for 2017-18 due to the transition to Adidas, although that could switch as early as the following season.
The reveal was followed with a panel that included Belleville Senators general manager Randy Lee, head coach Kurt Kleinendorst, development coach Shean Donovan as well as recently signed players Danny Sexton and Ben Sexton. Here are some highlights of the panel:
Kurt Kleinendorst on the balance of winning and player development...
“I wish I knew what the exact formula was, there isn’t one, but you have to keep all three in mind: we want to win, we want to develop, and we want to make sure our players are ready when they get that opportunity [to play in the NHL]. [...] All three of those factor into every single decision we make everyday.”
Shean Donovan on the joys of being a development coach...
The good thing about my job, now that I’ve done it for a few years and lots of the players I’ve dealt with, Thomas Chabot, Colin White, [Christian] Jaros, [Ben] Harpur; now they’re starting to make the transition from the Belleville Senators to the Ottawa Senators. [...] Now they’re taking the next step.
Randy Lee on the importance of the team’s geography.
Sometimes it’s hard to get players up [to the NHL]. Sometimes you can’t get them there. [...] Our division is quite good. We’re going to play Laval, which is much closer to our team, the [Toronto] Marlies, Rochester, Binghamton, Syracuse and Utica, and that’s our main division. That’s a wonderful geographic, and that’s wonderful for these guys [...] and they have more practice days, and more recovery days.
