Binghamton wins Game Two with 3-0 shutout
Game Two was remarkably different from Game One, aside from one very important detail: the final result. It was a more defensive battle, but the Binghamton Senators still came away with a win over the Charlotte Checkers
Scoring opened late in the first period, when Ryan Potulny took a Ryan Keller pass and got the puck past Checkers keeper Mike Murphy. Potulny then added a powerplay marker early in the second period for his league-leading 13th goal of the playoffs. The Checkers turned up the pressure as the second period went on, but all 16 of their shots in the period were stopped by Robin Lehner.
Binghamton was able to put the nail in the coffin when they went up 3-0 on Bobby Butler's goal midway through the third period, and the Checkers never managed to get on the board.
With tonight's victory, Binghamton has won eight playoff road games in a row and set a team record for playoff wins with ten. The Senators will now take a 2-0 series lead back to Binghamton when the series resumes on Tuesday.
BSens Hero: Robin Lehner
After getting pulled in game one of the series, Robin Lehner responded in a big way, stopping all 33 shots that the Checkers threw his way. The shutout was his second of the playoffs.
BSens Hero: Ryan Potulny
Potulny continued his incredible playoff run with two more goals tonight. Just over halfway through these playoffs, Potulny is now halfway to Bill McDougall's AHL playoff record of 26 goals.
BSens Hero: Ryan Keller
The captain of the Binghamton Senators usually gets on the score sheet with goals, but he helped out his team with two big assists tonight, both on goals by Potulny. He also led the team with four shots on goal.
