Senators forward Bobby Ryan will miss the remainder of the season after deciding to undergo surgery for a sports hernia. Ryan crashed into the boards awkwardly in the dying minutes of Ottawa's 3-1 loss in Dallas on Saturday and has not played since.

Murray accessed Ryan's first season in the capital as follows: "I know there were some times in games that he felt like he couldn't contribute very much but he stayed on the ice as required by the coaching staff and tried very hard to be a big factor for our team. I think he was and obviously we like that kind of person and want to treat him right in return."
Ryan is expected to recover in 5-6 weeks.
