What was a carefully guarded secret in Ottawa when it first happened in November, Ryan's injury has been rumoured for weeks and goes a long way to explain his tough second half to the season and questions about his ice time.
And there you have it: Sens confirm that Bobby Ryan will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a sports hernia. Has been hurt since Nov.

According to Sens GM Bryan Murray, Ryan decided to play through the pain and Murray felt the injury " handicapped him a little as far as shooting the puck in particular was concerned". Murray accessed Ryan's first season in the capital as follows: "I know there were some times in games that he felt like he couldn't contribute very much but he stayed on the ice as required by the coaching staff and tried very hard to be a big factor for our team. I think he was and obviously we like that kind of person and want to treat him right in return."
Ryan is expected to recover in 5-6 weeks.
