Bryan Murray Extended as GM and made President of Hockey Operations
Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee both promoted to Assistant GMs
The Senators have made a pair of moves (en français) that I think most of us have been expecting since the recent departure of Tim Murray, presumed GM-in-waiting - extending current GM Bryan Murray, and promoting Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee to Assistant GM positions.
The Murray extension is for 4 years in total. For the first 2 years he will continue as GM, as well as add the position of President of Hockey Operations to his duties. For the back half of the extension, Murray will be with the team in an advisory role. While the previous extension was a bit unexpected, this one had all kinds of signs pointing towards it. Murray is currently in his 7th season as Senators GM, and 9th season with the team.
Pierre Dorion continues in a role very similar to his position as Director of Player Personnel. As AGM he will be dealing with contracts and salary arbitration, scouting, and player evaluation. Dorion is in his 7th season with the team, having joined the team as Chief Amateur Scout in 2007.
Randy Lee will also see mostly similar tasks. He will be taking over as GM in Bingo and continuing to oversee player and prospect development. He too will be dealing with contracts, and will be managing some of the more mundane business tasks such as the team's budget. Lee started with the team as a video coach, and has moved up from there over the course of 19 seasons.
