Draft fantasy Tuesday!
Tuesday is upon us, and soon Friday must fall. That is the way of things. With Friday will come the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, where the Ottawa Senators will attempt to correct the course of the franchise by drafting some quality players. Senators General Manager Bryan Murray hasn't made it a secret that he'd like to trade up, which makes our mock draft strangely somewhat unrealistic, since he has the ammunition to do so. All that's missing is a willing partner. Will he find one on draft day? We'll find out on Friday.
In the meantime, we're going to use today to have a little fun--by talking about what we hope will happen at the draft. That's right, it's time to post your draft fantasies.
The rules:
1) Try to keep it on the fringes of realism - The Senators aren't acquiring Sidney Crosby this week, no matter how many bags of pucks you fantasize about giving the Penguins. If the only way you can justify it is, "Well, it's MY fantasy!" please reconsider whether that will be fun for everyone else. If you want to get a sense of the value of picks, I suggest starting here.
2) Be nice - That said, no one needs to poop on anyone else's fantasy. There's no need to tell anyone else how their scenario "wouldn't happen" -- people are posting fantasies here, not predictions. We're just having fun in this discussion.
3) You lose 1000 points if your fantasies involve trading Kuba - DO YOU REALLY WANT TO LOSE A THOUSAND POINTS?!
(read on for my fantasy scenario, then post your own...)
All right, for me, the perfect Friday goes like this:
Ottawa trades Nick Foligno, the 21st overall selection, and the 48th overall selection to the Florida Panthers for the 3rd overall selection. Ottawa selects Gabriel Landeskog.
Ottawa then trades the 6th overall selection, 61st overall selection, and 66th overall selection to the New Jersey Devils for the 4th overall selection. Ottawa selects Sean Couturier.
Boom, done.
See how it works? Now you try!
