Erik Karlsson named as Senators’ representative at All-Star Game
It’s the captain’s fifth All-Star apperance
To no one’s surprise, Erik Karlsson was named as the Ottawa Senators representative for the NHL All-Star Game. It’s the captain’s fifth All-Star appearance, and his third consecutive. It’s not surprising, given his incredible 2017 playoffs when he pushed the team all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Many would consider him to be having an off year, but he still has 30 points 36 games, good enough for 6th among defenceman and 2nd in points-per-game among d-men with at least three games played. His 27 assists has him 16th in the league. On a team that has woefully underperformed, Karlsson has still managed to score at quite a high level.
I was personally hoping Mark Stone would be named for a few reasons. The first is that he leads the Sens in goals, and is actually 19th in the league in points. He’s also managed to mostly fly under the radar as the best Sens forward, and I was hoping that he’d finally get some league-wide recognition. Karlsson still seems to be playing injured and could probably use a little extra rest, and in a season in which he isn’t the Sens’ lead scorer by a mile, I’d like to see Stone get the nod. Not to mention that the ASG relies on personality, and although Karlsson can definitely bring the fun, nobody can compete with #StoneFace. Everyone deserves a little bit of Mark Stone in their lives, and this could’ve been the chance for them to get it.
