Drew Doughty Wins Norris Trophy
Karlsson, Burns, and Doughty were the three finalists
Drew Doughty beat out Erik Karlsson for the 2016-17 Norris Trophy. Karlsson led all defencemen in points, and was the first defenceman to post 82 points in a season since Brian Leetch 20 years ago, but Doughty earned the nod for his strong defensive play. He likely also received nods for not having won yet, as many media members seemed to start an "anyone but Karlsson" campaign for Norris as the season went on. Since both Doughty and Karlsson are essentially in their primes, I think we can expect to see the two face off for the Norris Trophy for many more years to come.
Below is the breakdown of voting. As you can see, Doughty easily outpaced Karlsson for first-place votes.
