Gabriel Dumont Claimed Off Waivers by Tampa Bay Lightning
It’s the end of an era.
In what seems like an episode of a TV drama, the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning continue their Battle Of The Waiver Claims. The Sens placed Gabriel Dumont on waivers yesterday, and he’s now been reclaimed by the league-leading Lightning.
Dumont was originally under contract for Tampa Bay this season, playing seven games and failing to register on the score sheet. The Senators claimed him off waivers in late November, where he became a staple to the 4th line under Guy Boucher. He had familiarity with Boucher before his time with the Sens, having been coached by him in his junior days for Drummondville.
This isn’t the only waiver feud that’s occurred this season between these two teams, as the Lightning claimed Chris DiDomenico off waivers two days after the original Dumont claim. He was placed back on waivers a week later, with the Senators not hesitating to bring back their journeyman. The saga ended there, as DiDomenico was dealt to Chicago for Ville Pokka earlier this week.
In Dumont’s 23 games with the Senators, he managed to break his goal drought that lasted 35 games, adding an assist as well. At 27-years-old, he played an average 8:38 per game, including a career-high 1:07 on the penalty kill.
