Game 1 Preview: Washington Capitals @ Ottawa Senators
A preview of the season opener as the Sens host the Caps
Enough of the pre-season and practices, let’s get the season started! It’s a hot start with the Senators hosting last year’s President’s Trophy winning Washington Capitals.
No changes to the lines in today’s morning skate. Here’s how they lined up yesterday:
Smith-Turris-Hoffman
Ryan-Brassard-Stone
Pyatt-Thompson-Pageau
Dzingel-Brown-Burrows
Oduya-Ceci
Phaneuf-Claesson
Borowiecki-Wideman
Anderson (starter)
Condon
Some notes for tonight:
- After off-season surgery that may have kept him out past the start of the season, Derick Brassard was cleared to play tonight and is in the lineup
- Erik Karlsson isn’t quite back yet, but Pierre Dorion is hopeful that he could be in the lineup for Saturday
- Logan Brown gets to make his official NHL debut tonight, while Alex Formenton gets to wait for his turn
- Mark Borowiecki goes into the game with a brand new 2-year contract extension
- On the Caps side of things, Alex Ovechkin will start the season on the second line
- Recently signed former Sen Alex Chiasson will start on the third line for the Caps tonight
- Neither team looked especially good in the pre-season, and both will be looking to flip that to start the season/
It’s the start of the season, so there are no stats to go with other than the pre-season and who really wants to do that?
