Game 32 Preview and Open Thread: Ottawa Senators @ Calgary Flames
Canada's team arrives in Alberta
If you visit this site on a regular basis then you should already know that the Ottawa Senators are in fact good and that it was never really in doubt. Coming off a road shutout against Seattle on Tuesday night, the Sens bring some much-deserved national attention into tonight's affair against one of those other teams that isn't Ottawa. Looking at the stats below, you may take note that the Sens do more of the good things (getting shots, scoring goals) and less of the bad things (allowing shots, conceding goals) than Calgary. If you told me three months ago that Ottawa would do these types of things without Artem Zub for an extended period of time this season, I would have kindly asked you to leave. Now? You can stay.
Game Notes:
- The Flames also played on Tuesday and lost in overtime against Boston (doing Ottawa zero favours in the process).
- Last year, these teams split the season series one game apiece, each scoring seven goals along the way.
- When these teams met last month, Ottawa took the win at home by a 4-3 final score with Tkaptain scoring the game winner in the third on the powerplay.
- For those looking for some pregame reading, Graeme Nichols has a new article about long-misunderstood Thomas Chabot (some of us always believed in Hotsam).
- The Sens have recalled Cole Reinhardt for possible reinforcements up front.
- It looks like Dan Vladar will start for Calgary. I would argue that this bodes well for Ottawa.
Injuries:
Ottawa - Anton Fosrberg, David Perron, Artem Zub
Calgary - Justin Kirkland, Andrei Kuzmenko, Anthony Mantha
