Game 56: Montreal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators
The last time the Sens and Habs met (two weeks ago), they were both tied at 50 points in the conference. My, how things change, as the Senators are now at 64 points while the Habs sit at 55. Let's not forget that the Habs are division rivals and that the teams are the opening act of Hockey Day In Canada, which should provide plenty of motivation to keep that win streak alive in front of the entire country. If the Sens win they extend the streak to 9 straight wins, a new franchise record, and are one step closer to the playoffs (not to mention in the hunt for home ice advantage). Ottawa currently leads the season series 3-1.
Players to watch for:
- Nick Foligno - Nick has been playing the best hockey of his career as of late, and it shows: he's currently on three game point streak, with four points in that time (1G, 3A).
- Jason Spezza - Spezza's got a point streak of his own: three goals in the three games since he returned to the lineup, and five goals in his last five games if you go back before his injury.
- Brian Elliott - Hottest goalie in the NHL? Almost certainly. Elliott needs to continue his strong play if the Sens are going to continue their streak.
- Jaroslav Halak - The one loss the Senators had to the Habs was all because of this guy. He has a .927 SV%, which is better than Brian Elliott's .907 but not even close to Mike Brodeur's .966.
- Powerplay Units - Montreal's powerplay unit is 2nd best in the league, while Ottawa's is still ranked 30th.
