Game 70 Hub: Edmonton Oilers @ Ottawa Senators
Fresh off of a big victory against the high-flying Devils, the Senators will have their word cut out for them against McDavid, Draisaitl, and the Edmonton Oilers.
Ottawa's victory over the Devils last night means they no longer occupy last place in the Atlantic Division. Meanwhile, Edmonton's 6-3 drubbing at the hands of the Leafs have left them upset and ready to enact revenge tonight.
Also of note: Zach Hyman is one goal away from 50, which is not a sentence you could have ever expected to write three years ago .
Here's how Ottawa lined up last night, with the only expected change today being a swap of netminders to allow Anton Forsberg to start:
Meanwhile, here's how the Oilers lined up in Toronto; the Sens should expect to face Calvin Pickard in net but we'll see if there are swaps on Edmonton's fourth-line and bottom defence pair tonight, too:
Game Notes
- After trading for depth players in Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick at the trade deadline, the Oilers decided to load up their top-line against Toronto and gave up two goals to depth wingers Bobby McMann and Pontus Holmberg. Wonder if they'll spread it out today.
- Troy Stecher, their other deadline addition, didn't play, though some segments of Oilers fans are calling for him to replace Cody Ceci. I remember those days!
- Edmonton is fully healthy, a rarity at this point in the year. They sit 10 points back of the Pacific-leading Canucks, but only three ahead of third-place Los Angeles. Expect them to jostle with the Kings for home-ice rather than beat out Vancouver for the Pacific Division crown.
- There aren't many weaknesses I can spot among their lines, so it's going to be up to Jacques Martin to use home ice to his advantage to see if he can take advantage of last change to exploit Edmonton's fourth-line or third defence pair. Many Sens players were barking at Troy Stecher when they last played Arizona, so I bet he's itching to get into the lineup again.
- Tonight's game is a 7:00pm EDT start that you can catch on TSN5 (Sens), Sportsnet West (Oilers), or TVA Sports. If you're attending the game, the Senators organization are asking you to be in your seats for 5:45pm to take in the pre-game Ring of Honour induction ceremony for Dr. Donald Chow.
