Game 80 Hub: Montréal Canadiens @ Ottawa Senators
Ottawa's final home game of the season sees the Senators face off against hated rivals (and fellow lottery competitors)
I'll tell you what: when Ottawa plays Montréal, I don't give a damn about the draft standings. All I want is a blowout victory to send Sens fans home happy. With it being the final home game of the year – one of the more difficult years in franchise history – I want that doubly so.
For those who care more about the draft standings, though, here's where things stand. Lottery notwithstanding, both Montréal and Ottawa appear destined to draft between 5th and 8th overall. Calgary and Arizona both did everyone a favour and won yesterday, leaving Montréal with the fifth best odds and Ottawa right behind them. The last time these two teams drafted back-to-back worked out in Ottawa's favour, so...
With Tim Stützle expected to miss another game due to injury, here's how the Sens are expected to line up, with Joonas Korpisalo in net:
Meanwhile, here's how Montréal lined up in their last contest – an overtime loss to the New York Islanders. We expect the only change to be Cayden Primeau in net:
Game Notes:
- It's unfortunate to see Stützle miss the home finale against the Habs. He's produced a career highlight pack worth of moments against them in his young career already. Of course, the more important question is: who will Brendan Gallagher complain about now?
- The Habs are missing Kirby Dach, Joshua Roy, and noted pest Arber Xhekaj to injury. Kaiden Guhle is listed as day-to-day, so we'll see if he's fit enough to come into the squad.
- Former Sens first-round pick Colin White has suited up in 17 games for the Habs this season. He has no points and eight shots on goal while averaging just over nine minutes a game.
- While there's no active Sens players who are searching for end of season milestones, a Sens legend is about to play his 1,000th career NHL game tonight against the Boston Bruins.
- You can catch tonight's game at 7:00pm EDT on CityTV, Sportsnet East, and TVA Sports.
- P.S. Belleville is in quite a fight to make the AHL playoffs over Montréal's AHL affiliate in Laval. Both teams play night, with Belleville's game starting at 5:00pm EDT against Rochester. If they win and Laval lose against Cleveland (Columbus' AHL affiliate), the BSens magic number will be down to one.
