Binghamton loses game one to Houston, 3-1

Houston's defense was able to completely shut down Binghamton in game one. The first period was a goaltending battle, as both rookies were perfect in the first 20 minutes of the Calder Cup Finals. The Aeros took the lead in shots after the end of the first, 11-8.

In the second period, the Aeros made one mistake and Binghamton capitalized on it. Bobby Butler scored his 11th playoff goal into an open net after Matt Hackett made a bad play behind the crease. Colin Greening was the credited with the lone assist. The Aeros still had the lead in shots, 27-17.

The final 20 minutes were all Houston, as Jed Ortmeyer scored twice in the first seven minutes to take the lead. After that, the Aeros' defense went into shutdown mode. They smothered Binghamton, the best offense in the playoffs, keeping them to only seven shots in the third period. Houston forward Carson McMillan scored the empty net goal, as Houston took the first game of the Calder Cup Finals.

BSens Zeroes: Ryan Keller and Ryan Potulny
Both players went minus-three tonight and had only two shots on goal tonight. If Binghamton is going to win this series, this can't happen again. These two are heart and soul of the offense in the playoffs: when they do well, the team wins. When they don't, games like this happen.

BSens Killer: Houston's Defense
It isn't easy keeping the best offense in any league to only 24 shots in a single game. But Houston was able to do just that. Binghamton's offense wasn't able to get more than nine shots in a single period tonight, and was only able to get one single goal. The team leader in shots for tonight's game was Andre Benoit, with four.

BSens Killer: Jed Ortmeyer
Ortmeyer scored two goals in the third to give Houston the lead and eventually the win. He's now tied with Colton Gillies, who assist on both goals with Marco Scandella, for the team lead in goals with seven.
