Kitchener rookie tournament: Senators burn Leafs 7-1 in final game
I can't believe I forgot about the rookie game Thursday night. Amidst the insanity about Dany Heatley's trade and subsequent anti-trade, it totally slipped my mind. But maybe I should forget about more games, because by all reports the Senators' rookies came out shooting in their tournament finale against the Toronto Maple Leafs rookie squad, winning the game by a final score of 7-1.
Check out the team's release here, or some notes on the game on Black Aces. Sens' second round pick Robin Lehner proved who was the real monster tonight, stopping 26 of 27 shots while the Senators outshot Toronto 45-27. Ottawa goals came from Erik Condra, who had two goals, an assist, and a fight, Craig Schira, Brandon Svensen, Zack Smith, Shea Guthrie, and Keegan Dansereau--the latter marking his fourth of the tournament.
Unknown at this moment, but you can be sure a bunch of these rookies will be invited to the Senators main training camp. With a 2-1 record, plenty of these rookies made good impressions, but you've got to give particular credit to Lehner and Dansereau.
