Kyle Turris Signs 5-Year, $17.5 Million Contract Extension With Senators
(SB Nation) -- The Ottawa Senatorsannounced on Wednesday afternoon that the club has come to terms on a five-year contract extension with forward Kyle Turris worth $17.5 million, which will count for $3.5 million against the salary cap (under the current collective bargaining agreement).
Turris is in the second year of a two-year contract that pays the 23-year-old $1.6 million in 2012-13 and counts for $1.4 million against the salary cap. The contract extension will begin in 2013-14 and will run until the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.
Originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Turris requested a trade last offseason as a restricted free agent and held out until the middle of Nov. when he signed his current two-year deal. He was quickly traded to Ottawa in Dec. for defenseman David Rundblad and a second-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.
Entering his fourth NHL season, Turris has registered 31 goals and 44 assists for 75 points in 186 career games.
