Links, News, and Notes: 2020 Redraft, Early Impressions, OHL Allegations, and more
Links, news, and notes about a 2020 redraft, some early impressions for each team, allegations against 8 former OHL players, and more
Some links, news, and notes to start your week:
- Corey Pronman from The Athletic did a 2020 redraft, and Ottawa fans will be quite pleased because he has Tim Stützle and Jake Sanderson at 1/2. Read the rest here, there are some interesting insights.
- The other staff writers at The Athletic give their very early first impressions through a week and a half of the season. Many of these impressions end up changing from game to game this early on though.
- Rick Westhead is reporting yet another disgusting alleged sexual assault that occurred in 2014 with a 22-year-old woman and 8 OHL players. The details are linked, and the OHL has said they were unaware of this until the news broke. It's incredibly sad seeing how many of these sick acts have happened over the years. As Rick points out, contact info for crisis lines and services in other provinces can be found here.
- Joey Daccord became an instant highlight on Saturday night after the Seattle Kraken won in overtime and Daccord came into the celebration at full speed. A truly iconic moment.
- Bryan Little signed a one-day contract with the Winnipeg Jets to officially retire a Jet. It was pretty neat to see the fans share their love for him and Little was so appreciative of everyone there. Little played all 843 games with the franchise, both in Atlanta and Winnipeg. He hadn't played since 2019-20, but it was great to celebrate such a consistent top-6 winger.
- Mathieu Joseph scored on Saturday, and his brother Pierre-Oliver Joseph got the assist, which their parents absolutely loved. What a cool moment for the family.
- Tyler Myers played his 1000th game on Saturday for the Vancouver Canucks. He's been a lightning rod for criticism in Buffalo, Winnipeg, and Vancouver, but he's done something right to get to 1000 games, and he seems like a great person, teammate, and father. This story from Iain MacIntyre is a great example of that.
- Brenden Morrow was inducted into the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame on Saturday. The Stars legend was captain for seven seasons and is 6th all-time in games played for Dallas and 10th in points. He has been retired since 2016 and it is great to see proper recognition for him in Dallas.
- The Winnipeg Jets beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Sunday, and they remain the only undefeated team in the NHL at 5-0-0. Can that translate later in the season when it actually matters though or are they the team we saw in the Spring that folded too easily? Who knows.
- The Boston Bruins unveiled their jersey for the 100th anniversary of the first-ever NHL game, which will be played against the Montreal Canadiens. It'll only be worn one time, which is a shame because I think it looks stunning.
