The dust has settled from the draft and free agency, and we are now entering the doldrums of the NHL offseason. Before rookie camp, there isn't a lot to do but to analyze the moves that teams made, and then to re-analyze those analyses. Here's your Monday links:

  • Steve Warne is very bullish on the Chychrun for Jensen swap. Very.
  • Past S7-er Callum Fraser has a deeper look at the latest blue-chip prospect, Carter Yakemchuk.
  • A rumour roundup that includes an explanation of why there's been no Ullmark extension yet: both sides don't want to rush into a commitment. The comment that Swayman's next contract may set the value of Ullmark's is interesting. From Ullmark's point of view, I get not signing early; there will be a market if he walks to full UFA.
  • Paul Quinney with a piece about how the Sens have got tougher. Personally I don't think David Perron's pestiness counts as toughness exactly, and I don't think Noah Gregor will be a fixture in the lineup, but I also appreciate reading pieces from people I disagree with.
  • What NHL stories still need resolutions? The Jackets need a coach, the Oilers need a GM, the Leafs are dealing with Nick Robertson and potentially Mitch Marner, and Martin Necas and the Hurricanes are still negotiating.
  • Some players who may get traded due to upcoming cap crunches. If Shea Theodore becomes available, the Sens should be all over that. I also would enjoy Marco Rossi here, though mostly for the sake of his name.
  • A little more on Jessica Campbell, the NHL's first female assistant coach.
  • Which coaches are likely to be fired first? I expect Mike Sullivan to get fired if the Penguins are even .500 out of the gate. They're nearing the end of the fumes of Crosby's career.
  • Which NHL teams still need to make big moves? Unsurprisingly, it's the most recent Cup winners — the Panthers, Knights, and Avalanche — with holes in their lineup but no cap space to fill them.
  • The allegations of a toxic culture in PWHL Minnesota continue to mount.
  • Chris Sinclair looks at PWHL Ottawa's offseason changes by position. He doesn't gloss over the loss of Daryl Watts, but I still think he's more positive than me about the forward outlook in her absence.
  • Finally, here's Jacob Bernard-Docker showing off his silky hands (?!?!) on a breakaway in Da Beauty League:
