Links, News, and Notes: Win Some, Lose Some
The Sens won on Saturday, but have lost Forsberg to a groin injury
It's Monday, which means it's time for some hockey links. No need to delay, here we go:
- Anton Forsberg's injury has been confirmed to be a groin injury that will keep him out until at least the second week of February.
- Shane Pinto is set to sign his qualifying offer ahead of re-joining the team on January 21. He's saying the right things, and having an extra centre in the mix can only help this team.
- Should the Sens acquire a veteran before the deadline? Paul Quinney says probably not, but also looks at potential targets if they decide to. Matt Roy is interesting to me as a reliable right-handed defenceman, but definitely not as a pending UFA.
- Tim Baines wonders if Stützle's back to normal with Saturday's outburst, or it was an anomaly in an overall struggle. For my money, Timmy looked confident as the game went on, and that's what I expect of him when things are normal.
- Coming off Ottawa PWHL's first-ever win, Ian Kennedy brings us some PWHL updates on merchandise, All-Star Games, neutral-site games, and team names
- Jacob Billington does a great deep-dive into what you should know about every Ottawa PWHL player
- An NHL-wide rumour roundup, including news that Bowen Byram almost got the Jamie Drysdale treatment in being traded for Cutter Gauthier
- The NHL All-Star Game jerseys were designed by the Justin Bieber-co-owned Drew House. Personally I like them in that they're quirky and fun, not supposed to be too serious, much like the ASG as a whole
- We've got the finalized ASG rosters. Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of Leafs and Canucks added via the fan vote. I'm still a little surprised the NHL took Tkachuk over Stützle, considering the latter has never been, has more points, and is very fun in an All-Star setting given his incredible puck skills.
- In an amazing coincidence, two brothers from Barrhaven—Graeme and Brandt Clarke—were called up for their first NHL games on the same day.
- We're still nearly 2 months from the NHL Trade Deadline, but that doesn't stop speculation from happening. Currently the top Sens on TSN's tradebait board are Vladimir Tarasenko (6th) and Dominik Kubalik (16th). This isn't surprising, given both are pending UFAs in their first years in Ottawa. It's unclear what the Sens will be able to get for them, especially for Kubalik. The only other pending UFA is Rourke Chartier, who seems like the kind of player a deep time could acquire for a 6th-rounder, but other than that, it's not looking right now like we're gonna see a splash to acquire Erik Brännström or anything like that.
- Finally, a win at last means we get another helmet video:
