Links, News, and Notes: PWHL Schedule, Ullmark Uncertain
Injuries are hitting the Sens early, but at least Chabot's OK
It's a game day, but before we get going with that, let's revisit what's happened these last couple days. Here's what's going on, to start your Thursday:
- The PWHL schedule has been released. The Ottawa Charge get their season underway on Saturday, November 30 in Montreal. Their first home game is Tuesday, December 3 against Toronto.
- Linus Ullmark skated on Wednesday, and "may" be ready to play tonight. I can see the value in not rushing the recently extended goalie, but also, this team's goaltending depth was woefully exposed these last couple games. In other news, Artem Zub is out at least a week with (another) concussion, and Ridly Greig doesn't yet have a timeline. The Zub injury in particular is concerning, both considering his history and considering that it means that either Jacob Bernard-Docker or Travis Hamonic is playing 20+ minutes tonight.
- In better injury news, a bump between Thomas Chabot and JBD turned out to be nothing after it originally looked like Chabot might be hurt.
- Steve Warne looks at 5 recent Sens regulars who are out of the NHL completely now. I think it's a little premature to say Brännström is out of the NHL forever, but Rourke Chartier was a key player to start last year that nobody in the NHL wanted. Yikes.
- Back to the PWHL, Ian Kennedy has quotes from each team on the new schedule. Natalie Spooner is expected to start the season after off-season knee surgery.
- Some Penguins milestones, with Evgeni Malkin reaching 500 goals and Sidney Crosby hitting 1600 points. Also, Alex Ovechkin hit 700 assists on Tuesday.
- ESPN ranks every team's prospect pool, and Ottawa fell 29th. Unsurprising given how little non-NHL talent the Sens have in the pipeline.
- The Blue Jackets raised a Johnny Gaudreau banner to the rafters on Tuesday.
- After finishing his career in Switzerland, Riley Sheahan has announced his retirement. I was shocked to learn he played 637 NHL games.
- Finally, here's ex-Sens goalie Filip Gustavsson scoring a goal, because goalie goals are always awesome:
