Mike Fisher Retires
The former Sens fan favourite has announced his retirement from the NHL
In a letter to Predators fans, Mike Fisher has announced his retirement from the NHL.
Over the course of his 17 season career, Fisher clocked 1088 regular season NHL games, 276 goals and 585 points. Of those, 675 of the games, 167 goals and 348 points were in a Senators uniform. More than a few memorable moments, none probably more than his double overtime goal in the 2004 Battle of Ontario to force Game 7.
He also had a huge impact on the community in his years in Ottawa, acting as the honorary chair of Roger's House for five years and running a charity hockey camp. Perhaps most memorable was his time with the young Sens fan Elgin Fraser. There is the well known pictures of Fisher holding Elgin when he got to skate with the team just before the start of the 2007 playoffs but when the cameras were off, all through that run to the Stanley Cup Final, Fisher kept in touch with the family and stopped by for visits. We only know that because the Elgin’s family chose to share it, and there are plenty of stories like that about Fisher possibly being even more generous with his time and attention when away from the media spotlight.
