Monday LNN: Hockey is (kind of, almost) Back!
It's the Monday edition of Links, News and Notes!
- Our friends at La Brigade are back for the 2024-25 season! If you speak French, make sure to listen to their latest episode, which features our friend Stewart’s debut as a host. You may remember him from the articles he wrote for Silver Seven last season.
- The LeBreton saga has been dragging on for so long that it’s hard to get excited about any updates, but Bruce Garrioch at Postmedia seems confident that the Sens will eventually get an arena there. It sounds like there’s an important deadline this Friday, so we should know more by then.
- The New York Sirens (that’s the PWHL team, for those who still haven’t learned all the names) have announced that they will call the Prudential Centre home for this upcoming season. Yes, that’s in New Jersey. They’re not the only New York sports team to play in New Jersey, so it’s fine, but it’s funny that this team does not seem to want to play in New York.
- The Sens’ jersey sponsor for away games this year will be Calian.
- Max Pacioretty has signed a PTO with the Leafs. That has to hurt for Montreal fans.
- Speaking of veterans looking for PTOs… apparently Phil Kessel is looking for a new team. Please, Sens. It would be so funny.
- Apparently the NHL has had internal talks about how the current salary cap system benefits teams in places with low income tax. However, it doesn’t sound like they’re going to do anything to address the problem anytime soon, as any potential solutions would be too complicated.
- Former NHL player Stephen Peat has tragically passed away at the age of 44 after being hit by a car while crossing a street in BC. It’s heartbreaking to see so much loss hit the hockey community in one offseason.
