Monday LNN: Injured Referee, Coyotes Potential Land Deal and More
Monday's Edition of the Links, News and Notes
- A scary incident during the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Tamps Bay Lightning game on Saturday resulted in referee Steve Kozari leaving the game on a stretcher. Luckily, he was alert and recovering well as of yesterday.
- The Arizona Coyotes situation just added another chapter, this one perhaps more positive for the franchise. The Coyotes have announced plans for a privately funded arena and entertainment district, assuming they win the bidding for the land which they are fully committed to do so.
- Evander Kane is back to causing trouble, it seems both for the league and his own teammates. He was fined $5,000 for a slash against Calgary Flames' Dryden Hunt. The more interesting news is the recent drama around his "altercations" with teammates Leon Draisaitl and Corey Perry.
- The Sens' season hasn't exactly gone the way we had hoped but at least our Captain is breaking records? I mean, not the kind of record you'd expect but it's still something, right? Brady Tkachuk broke the record for most hits in a single game (16) since the advent of the salary capy against the New Jersey Devils. The record was previously held by Nikita Zadorov with 15 hits.
- Winnipeg Jets' Captain, Adam Lowry has had enough with Martin Pospisil and thinks the league needs to send a strong message to the Calgary Flames forward. Pospisil was ejected from the game last Thursday after a hit to Josh Morrissey's head. He is yet to be suspended but if it happens, it will be his fourth disciplinary action in 2 months; I think Lowry has a point there.
- The NHL/NHLPA have made a generous contribution of $25,000 to the Janis Foligno foundation started by former Senator Nick Foligno to honour his late mother who died from breast cancer in 2009.
- Lastly, our very own nkb joined La Brigade for the latest edition of the podcast. Check it out for a discussion of what the Sens should down with Korpisalo, some thoughts on PWHL Ottawa, and more!
