Pageau’s Islanders advance, and Vegas looks to close out their series!
Yesterday’s Game:
New York Islanders 6, Boston Bruins 2 (New York Islanders win 4-3)
The Islanders went into this game with a chance to win the series on home ice and eliminate a team that seems to be a contender every year, and they did not waste it. Travis Zajac scored the first goal to put the Islanders up 1-0, but Marchand evened the score before time ran out in the first period. The Islanders really took control of the game in the second, though, with Brock Nelson scoring two in a row, and Kyle Palmeri later finding the back of the net to make the score 4-1 heading into the third.
Now, I hardly need to remind any of my readers of the Bruins’ record when down 4-1 and facing elimination. When Marchand scored his second of the game and immediately looked up at the clock, it was clear that he was thinking the same thing. Could the Bruins pull off another epic comeback?
Well, no.
In fact, that Boston goal was a bit of a wakeup call for the Islanders. Not only did they keep the Bruins from even registering a shot on goal for the rest of the game; they also scored two more goals to win the game very decisively. Our boy Jean-Gabriel Pageau had a fantastic game, although I hardly need to tell you that considering how well he always performs in the playoffs. Stats here.
They will face the Lightning in round 3.
