Open Thread: Memorial Cup Final
An open thread to discuss the Memorial Cup Final between the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Guelph Storm.
The Memorial Cup, the CHL's annual tournament to decide the best junior team in the country (and parts of the United States), wraps up this afternoon in London, Ontario with the WHL champion Edmonton Oil Kings taking on the OHL champ Guelph Storm. Why is this of any interest to Sens fans? Well, each team has a Sens prospect: Guelph defenseman Ben Harpur was taken 108th by the Senators in 2013 and Edmonton forward Curtis Lazar was drafted 17th overall by Ottawa in 2013.
How did we get here? Guelph rolled over everybody on its way to a perfect 3-0 record while outscoring its opponents 18-7. The Edmonton Oil Kings (2-1) needed to beat the Val d'Or Foreurs to advance. Sens prospect Curtis Lazar scored on a beauty tip in the third overtime to put his Oil Kings through to today's final. Miss it? Check out the highlights:
