Ottawa 67’s and Gatineau Olympiques Weekly Report - November 6th, 2014
Your weekly report on all the recent activity of the Ottawa 67’s and the Gatineau Olympiques
Another week has gone by in the National Capital Region, so we'll take a few minutes to examine what's happened with Ottawa 67's and the Gatineau Olympiques.
Ottawa 67's
The Ottawa 67's went on a road trip this week playing three games, recording four points. The 67's are still sitting at fourth in their division with 14 points and a record of 7-8-0-0. They are three points ahead of the Peterborough Petes (who have two games in hand) and are only 1 point behind Kingston. The 67's are currently sitting at sixth in the conference and with Niagara and Sudbury at the bottom, a playoff position looks likely.
Thursday's 4-1 Win @ Niagara
To start the week, the 67's played against the Niagara Ice Dogs; Niagara has had a weird start to the season. They are a middle of the pack possession team but due to some bad luck and being snake bit with injuries, they have a 94% PDO and are in such a deep hole in the standings that it would be miraculous for them to recover from. Despite this, Niagara was out-possessing Ottawa, but Ottawa was able to come away with the 4-1 win. Goals came from Jeremiah Addison, Erik Bradford, and Trent Mallette (2x) while assists were credited to Tyler Hill (2x), Travis Konecny, Kevin Groulx, Davis Taylor and Nathan Todd (2x). Liam Herbst made 35 of 36 saves on the night with the PK going 2 for 2 and the power-play going 0 for 2.
Saturday's 7-4 Loss @ Erie
On Saturday the 67's visited Erie where they faced off against an Otters team scoring on average six goals per game. On his own, Connor McDavid is at a three point per game average right now. Unsurprisingly, the 67's were outplayed, but Ottawa still managed to score four times. The shots were in Erie's favour, 38-30. The Ottawa goals came from Jeremiah Addison (2x), Connor Graham and Erik Bradford while assists were credited to Jeremiah Addison, Travis Konecny, Jacob Middleton, Alex Lintuniemi, Taylor Davis and Dante Salituro (2x). Leo Lazarev made 31 of 38 saves.
Sunday's 3-2 Win @ Guelph
In a much closer game, from a possession stand point, the 67's were able to keep the game within reach against Guelph Storm and beat the Storm 3-2 in regulation. Shots were in Ottawa's favour 39-34 as well. Ottawa goals were scored by Ben Fanjoy (2x) and Dante Salituro. Assists were credited to Jeremiah Addison, Connor Graham, Erik Bradford and Jacob Middleton. Liam Herbst was back in net making 32 of 34 saves.

OHL Fancystats standings come from CHLStats.com.
By the numbers it seems like the 67's have been a consistently out-played team. Ottawa's PDO is normal so they are not out-performing their skill which is good to see when considering their recent record. It's still likely that they will make the playoffs and Sudbury and Niagara are so far down in the standings it would be very difficult for either of them to make up the ground, especially not Sudbury who is a 40% possession team.
Players standing out
Dante Salituro still leads the team in points and points per game which is excellent for the draft-eligible forward. It seems that it is his size that has had scouts turn away from him in pre-season rankings. Other players to recognize have been Erik Bradford, Travis Konecny and Travis Barron who have consistently been good. On defence Jacob Middleton and Alex Lintuniemi have been excellent and Jeremiah Addison really stood out this week.
In net, Liam Herbst has improved his save percentage to over the league average as he now has a .903 sv% and 3.07 GAA against 267 shots against. His backup Leo Lazarev has a .876 on 266 shots.
The World Under-17 Challenge is taking place this week. It's a tournament for young prospects who are 15 (very rarely) and 16-year-olds. Canada switched from regional teams to three teams of the best players this year. Travis Barron has made Canada White and through 2 games so far he has 1 goal and 4 penalty minutes.
Upcoming Schedule
The Ottawa 67's originally had three games on the schedule for this week with another back-to-back-to-back but that doesn't look like it will be happening. The Friday and Sunday game at home have been postponed as the ice-making machine has malfunctioned and all the ice has melted. The lone game that remains is a Saturday evening game at Kingston.
Gatineau Olympiques
Gatineau continues to fall in the possession standings and as their PDO catches up to them, Gatineau is slowly falling in the standings. Gatineau currently sits second in the division with 24 points and a record of 10-7-0-4 and are 2 points behind Sherbrooke who have 2 more points and 2 games in hand. League-wide, Gatineau is sitting at sixth in the league so missing the playoffs aren't a worry right now.
Saturday's 6-5 Win @ Rouyn-Noranda
It was a mixed bag on Saturday as Gatineau faced Rouyn-Noranda. Possession was traded back and forth between the periods. The final score saw Gatineau emerge as victors 6-5 with shots in their favour 30-25. The Gatineau goals were scored by Alex Dostie (2x), Jonathan Bourcier, Yakov Trenin (2x) and Alexis Pepin. The assists were credited to Elie Berube, Alexandre Carrier, Marcotte Louick, Alex Dostie, Phil Pietroniro, Joey Richard, and Alexandre Landreville. Anthony Brodeur started in net making 11 of 14 saves in 27:29 and then Nicolas Lachance played the remained of the game making 9 of 11 saves.
Sunday's 5-4 SO Win @ Val-d'Or
Gatineau controlled possession throughout this game but it was not good enough as the game had to go to the shootout. Gatineau did win the game 5-4, after going 3-2 in the shootout. Shots were in Gatineau's favour 30-23 with goals scored by Joey Richard, Yakov Trenin, Andrew Abou-Assaly and Alexandre Alain. Assists were credited to Matt Sartoris, Mickael Beauregard, Alex Dostie, Phil Pietroniro (2x), Joey Ricard, Vaclav Karabacek and Daniel DeSousa. Nicolas LaChance played all 65 minutes and made 19 of 23 saves.

QMJHL Fancystats standings come from CHLStats.com.
Gatineau is sitting at 14th in the league in possession with a 47.26% possession and a fairly normal PDO of 101. Their goaltending is 13th in the league while their shooting percentage is tops at 13.58%. This does not inspire confidence in the team as you would expect their shooting percentage to move towards the mean as Gatineau does not have the finishing talent to sustain that.
Players standing out
There are a number of players who continue to stand out on the team. Louick Marcotte leads the team in points per game and points, tied with Yakov Trenin. Defenceman Alexandre Carrier maintains almost a point per game run with Alexandre Alain right behind him.
Pascal Laberge is also playing in the World Under-17 Challenge playing for Canada Black. In 2 games he has 2 assists as well as 2 PIM.
Gatineau goaltenders are both well below league average with Anthony Brodeur posting a .883 Sv% on 383 shots while Nicolas Lachance has posted a .883 Sv% as well on 239 shots.
Upcoming Schedule
This week the Olympiques have a lighter schedule with a game on Friday versus Charlottetown and then on early match Sunday versus Baie-Comeau.
