Ottawa 67's
The Ottawa 67's continue their perfect record at home with another two wins this week. The 67's are now sitting in fourth place in the division with a 2-0 record this week and a 4-5-0-0 record on the year. Ottawa jumped up to seventh in the division and solidly hold a playoff position.
Friday's 6-3 Win vs. Mississauga
On Friday the 67's played against the Mississauga Steelheads (currently ranked in sixth in the East) and, despite the many goals traded back and forth, were thoroughly outplayed. The shots were in Mississauga's favour 36-29 but puck-luck was on Ottawa's side as they walked away the winners with a final score of 6-3. Ottawa goals were scored by Artur Tyanulin, Erik Bradford, Travis Barron (2x) and Dante Salituro (2x), who continues his scoring streak. Assists came from Tyanulin, Travis Konecny, Bradford, Nevin Guy, Brendan Bell, Alex Lintuniemi and Nathan Todd. Liam Herbst was in net and played the full 60 minutes making 33 of 36 saves (.917). The powerplay went 3 for 3 while the penalty kill went 1 for 2. Barron and Salituro were named first and second stars of the game.
Hall of Famer Brian Kilrea was also behind the bench for this game in honour of his 80th birthday.
Sunday's 5-3 Win vs. Plymouth
On Sunday the 67's played the Plymouth Whalers (currently ranked sixth in the West with nine points). The game was much more even between the teams with the puck slightly tilted in Plymouth's favour. At the end of the game Ottawa continued their winning streak with a final score of 5-3, but shots were in Plymouth's favour 26-28. Ottawa goals were scored by Tyanluin, Dylan McDonald and Salituro scored a hat trick. Assists were credited to Connor Graham, Jacob Middelton, Sam Studnicka and Alex Lintuniemi. Liam Herbst was back in net, making 25 saves on 28 shots (.893 on the night). The special teams had a bit less success with the powerplay only going 1 for 4 on the night while their penalty kill was rock-solid going 4 for 4.

Despite their success this week, the Ottawa 67's have dropped in possession standings down to 44.4%. This could be a bad sign, but the season is still early with only nine games played. I would wait to see where this trends. In the long run it could be bad, but we will continue to monitor it over the next few weeks.
Their PDO has also been bad despite the 67's winning the last four games; this is an encouraging sign as they will regress to the norm. Their shooting percentage is a bit high at 10.744% but their goaltending has been an abysmal 87.043%. We should expect their goaltending to rise and hopefully win them a few games.
Players
Player statistics have been added to CHLStats and from that we can see who is standing out. Dante Salituro leads the team in PPG at 1.22, which is a good sign for this draft eligible player and will hopefully rise. Travis Barron and Travis Konecny should see their offensive production rise, as they are quite low at 0.67 and 0.56 PPG. Unsurprisingly, with his success in the small sample of games, Salituro leads the team in percentage of team points and goals and has the team's highest even-strength goal-for % and relative ESGF%.
Konecny made Sportsnet.ca's Top Prospect list coming in at 10th overall, where he is quoted that he is known for his "energy, compete level". He also suffered a bad hit to the head on the weekend (video above). He appears okay as he was reported to be on the exercise bike this week to test out his injury. Gianluca Curcuruto of the Plymouth Whalers was suspended for 12 games on Tuesday as a result of this hit. Konecny was almost named to the first roster in the OHL Subway Super Series on November 13th to face the Russian Junior National Team.
Schedule
This week is going to be an exhausting week for the Ottawa 67's as they have a back-to-back-to-back on Friday through Sunday, all on the road in the Western Conference. On Friday the 67's will be facing off against London; Saturday will see Ottawa travel to Sarnia and then Sunday they are off to Kitchener before four days off.
Gatineau Olympiques
The puck luck seems to have run out for Gatineau this week as they lost all three games. The analytics showed they were in for a drop so it's not that big of a surprise. Despite the lack of team success a few players continue to stand out as they make a name for themselves looking towards the 2015 draft and their future NHL careers.
Gatineau has dropped down to third in their division with a record of 7-6-0-3 and 17 points which leaves them sixth overall in the league. Thankfully in the QMJHL 16 of the 18 teams make the playoffs!
Friday, 5-2 Loss vs Blainville-Boisbriand
On Friday's game versus the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (fourth in the division), Gatineau was outplayed but their goalie kept the score closer than play reflected. Gatineau lost the shot count 40-21 and ultimately lost the game 5-2. The Gatineau goals came from Joey Richard and Alain Alexandre. Assists were given to Louick Marcotte, Alex Dostie, Jonathan Bourcier and Alexis Pepin. Anthony Brodeur was in net and made 35 saves on 39 shots (.897 on the night). The power-play went 2 for 6 while the penalty kill went 2 for 3.
Sunday, 3-2 Loss @ Blainville Boisbriand
Gatineau faced the Armada again on Sunday for a re-match but were once again outplayed and lost the game as a result. The final score was 3-2 for the Armada, with shots in their favour 29-26. Gatineau goals were scored by Alex Dostie, and Alexis Pepin while assists were notched by Louick Marcotte, Joey Richard, Jonathan Bourcier and Yakov Trenin. Nicolas Lachance was in net and made 26 saves giving him a .897 on the night. The powerplay was 2 for 5 on the night while the penalty kill went 5 for 5.
Tuesday, 5-4 Loss @ Rimouski
Tuesday night the Olympiques played an off away game in the middle of the week vs Rimouski, two of the top ranked teams in the league. While they were close in the standings the analytics suggested otherwise so it doesn't come as a surprise to see Gatineau thoroughly outplayed. In the end the score was 5-4 for Rimouski with shots in their favour 37-23. The Gatineau goals were scored by Louick Marcotte, Mickael Beauregard, Yakov Trenin and Alexis Pepin. Assists were credited to Alexandre Carrier (2x), Jonathan Bourcier, Yakov Trenin (2x), Daniel De Sousa and Alexandre Alain. Both goals played in net with Nicolas Lachance starting and playing 11:48 where he let in 3 goals on 5 shots. Anthony Brodeur played the remained of the stopping 30 of 32 shots. The powerplay went 1 for 5 while the penalty kill went 4 for 6.

Despite performing well (until this week) Gatineau has fallen out of the CHL.ca Top 10 teams. We can attribute this to their possession numbers declining over the last few games which can be seen in their rolling possession numbers below. They are fifth last in the league in Est. Fenwick Close which does not bode well for their Memorial Cup Chances this year. Their PDO has been helping them though, they have an above average shooting percentage with a slightly below average save percentage.
Gatineau Rolling Possession
Players
Two Gatineau players are in the QMJHL top 20 of scoring: over-ager Louick Marcotte and rookie, draft-eligible, import Yakov Trenin are ninth and 10th in league scoring with 20 points each. These two players lead the team in points/game with 1.46 and 1.13 respectively. Marcotte does have a very high shooting percentage of 16% while Yakov Trenin's is much more normal at 8%. The next highest is Alexandre Carrier with 0.8 PPG. Jonathan Bourcier continues to lead the team in total shots (41) while Alexandre Alain leads the team in SOG/G with 3.09. Two of the players with the highest Dangerous Shooting Percentage are Vaclav Karabacek and Joey Richard. Two quite members on defence are Fraser Turner and Elie Berube who seem to be on the ice for a lot of goals for but very few against.
Both draft-eligible Alexandre's (Alain et Carrier) have been named to the QMJHL's roster for the Subway Super Series. Yakov Trenin would have been a lock but he's not a Canadian and therefore not eligible to be named to the roster.
Schedule
The Gatineau Olympique also have a back-to-back-to-back schedule this week which is split home/away/home. Friday the Olympiques will face Halifax at home. Saturday Gatineau travels to Shawinigan and then on Sunday Gatineau play an afternoon game against Sherbrooke.
