Ottawa Senators Acquire Matthew Peca From Montreal
The Sens are minor buyers after selling in the morning.
After trading away two forwards in the morning, the Ottawa Senators pivot to being buyers in the afternoon, albeit at a much lower cost. They’ve acquired forward Matthew Peca from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a 7th round pick in 2020 and Aaron Luchuk.

Peca, a 26-year-old centre, has spent the majority of the season playing with the AHL’s Laval Rocket. He has 64 NHL games under his belt from previous seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning and a short stint with the Habs this season, in which he’s scored 17 points.
The Senators are currently short on forwards following this morning’s trades, and will likely play him in the NHL down the stretch. With a cap hit of $1.3 million, Peca will be an unrestricted free agent in the off-season. He’s expected to make his debut tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets, pending he makes it on time.
Going to Montreal is Aaron Luchuk, a player originally signed by Ottawa as a CHL free agent in 2017, but after a bulk a moves was re-acquired earlier this week in exchange for Max Veronneau. He’s spent the majority of the season in the ECHL.
The 7th round pick also going back reduces the Sens to a mere 13 picks in the 2020 NHL draft.
