Ottawa Senators Bring Back Ryan Dzingel in Trade with the Carolina Hurricanes

Alex Galchenyuk and Cedric Paquette Are Out

In an unexpected move by Pierre Dorion, the Ottawa Senators have acquired former Sens favourite Ryan Dzingel in exchange for forwards Alex Galchenyuk and Cedric Paquette.

TSN’s Darren Dreger first broke the news of Dzingel coming back to Ottawa with Frank Seravalli confirming the exchange. There will be no salary retained on either side.

Alex Galchenyuk had a decent showing in Ottawa he wasn’t trending towards a breakout season at this point. Cedric Paquette’s tenure on the other hand seemed to be painful for both parties and I speak for the majority, if not the entire fanbase, that it will be a relief to see his spot taken by a much more effective player.

Ryan Dzingel hasn’t been the same player since leaving Ottawa but it can be argued that he is better than both the players going the other way. He will hopefully provide much needed spark and speed on the top-9 and if it seems like he has nothing left in the tank, he is a UFA at the end of the season. The extra spot freed also means that we may be seeing a new face from the youngsters soon.

Ryan Dzingel is expected to quarantine upon arriving in Ottawa as per the COVID-19 protocols.

Welcome back Ryan!
