Senators Make First Cuts
Three players are heading back to the juniors
The Senators have announced the first cuts of camp, and they’re all players going back to the juniors.
Maxime Lajoie has been sent back to the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos, Logan Brown has been sent back to the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires and Filip Chlapik will rejoin the Charlottetown Islanders in the QMJHL.
All three had positive comments coming from camp, and made at least somewhat of an impression, though none of them were expected to make the team this season. Better to get them back to their junior teams sooner rather than later.
As far as exhibition play went, Brown looked decent in the game in Halifax on Monday. Lajoie and Chlapik didn’t look terrible in Buffalo, but neither got much going offensively. Defensively, Lajoie was on for two of the Sabres goals. On the up side for Chlapik, he went 7 for 8 on faceoffs.
With these first cuts, five goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 27 forwards are left at camp.
Among them, somewhat notably (and pointed out by Silver Seven Founder Peter Toomanyvowels), is the one other player who would have to go back to junior if cut - Thomas Chabot.
