Sterling Predictions: Bobby Ryan’s Point Totals
Will the winger get back to 40 points this year?
Today’s first question is easy to answer: Will Bobby Ryan score more than 40 points? Bonus: predict his total number of points.
Colin: If Bobby Ryan played 82 games last season, he would've been on track for 33 points (0.40 points per game). This comes after three seasons where he posted nearly the exact same P/GP (0.69), so we're left wondering whether the sudden decline was a fluke or not.
I think there was definitely some mental struggle going through Ryan's mind last season, which could itself raise the point totals to over 40. However, he's already 30 years old, which is well past the typical prime of a player, especially for shooters. Add in the fact last season he posted his highest 5v5 shooting percentage since his arrival to Ottawa, and I think he'll score just under 40 (precise prediction of 38).
Callum: I think just over 40 would be a reasonable number for Ryan. He doesn't seem faster, if anything he's looked the opposite in training camp, but maybe he's still got some playoff mojo going to start the season. If he stays healthy, he'll reach that number. I'll go with 43.
Trevor: Nope, Bobby will end up with 34. He'll be slightly better than last regular season, but not the player we saw in the playoffs.
Spencer: Yes - but not by much. I think Bobby totals 15 goals and 30 assists for a tidy 45 point campaign.
Ross: I’ve predicted he gets exactly 40 points. So, no.
Ary: Nope. I think he gets more than his last season's totals, but ends with 35.
Beata: Nope. He'll fall just short with 38.
NKB: Ryan will get 51 this year thanks to a return to health and his playing a key role on a rejeuvenated power play.
