Ottawa Senators Prospect Awards 2024: MVP
Break out your kilts and fire up the bagpipes for your 2024 Prospect Awards MVP.
For our final edition of the Silver Seven Prospect Awards, we end with the big one: Most Valuable Player. While this particular player lost out on Mann of the Year by just one vote to Stephen Halliday, he pulled off a commanding victory for MVP, with 35.5% of the votes. Halliday, Tyler Kleven and Zack Ostapchuk, in that order, were varying degrees of close but nobody matched up with the speedy winger to take home this year's top prize.
Without further adieu, I present to you, the 2024 Prospect Awards MVP.
Winner: Angus Crookshank
The year Angus Crookshank had has been pretty well documented on this site. Here's a list of what the North Vancouver product accomplished this year:
- Led the Belleville Senators in points per game (0.92)
- Named an AHL All-Star
- Made his NHL debut
- Scored his first NHL goal
- Compiled one fewer point than last year - but in 21 fewer games
- Second to only Roby Järventie (0.73) in primary points per game (0.7)
- Stayed (relatively) healthy for the second straight season after missing an entire year with an injury
Overall, Crooker was the key cog to Belleville's success this year. Almost every element of his game improved on the stat sheets and you could see the tenacity and power to his game hit a new level as the year progressed.
Crookshank not only receive two call-ups for the first time in his career, but he made the most of each, compiling 13 total games with Ottawa. I wouldn't argue that Crookshank's impact with the big club was massive, as he compiled just three points through those 13 games while posting a 46.22 CF%. That being said, there were multiple games where he didn't look out of place and I'd expect him to push somewhere in the realm of 13th forward or "first call-up" coming into camp in September.
