Game 17: Binghamton shuts down Syracuse

After being completely dominated by the Hershey Bears, the Binghamton Senators were able to bounce back by defeating the Syracuse Crunch 4-0. This was the third time these two teams have met so far this season, and with this win Binghamton leads the battle of I-81 by a 2-1 margin (the first win was also a shutout by Robin Lehner). The script for this game is the about the same with most Binghamton wins: Brust was fantastic, Butler scored a goal, Locke got the points, and Lessard spent nearly a full period in the box.

On the note of Butler, Locke, and Lessard, all three are AHL leaders. Butler with goals, Locke with points, and Lessard in PIMs and majors.

With Mike Brodeur and Robin Lehner in Binghamton, who would have guessed that Barry Brust would be the number one goalie in Binghamton? After allowing 8 goals against Hershey, it's nice to see Brust shut a team down, as well as be this hot early in the season.

BSens Heroes: Colin Greening-Corey Locke-Bobby Butler
Binghamton has the fifth best offense in the AHL, and this line is the reason why. Bobby Butler scored the GWG (the first goal of the game), Corey Locke added to his AHL lead in points with three (1G/2A), and Colin Greening assisted Locke for the second goal in the game. The BLG line scored 5 points tonight.

BSens Hero: Patrick Wiercioch
I think Wiercioch is hurt that only two fans voted for him as their favorite prospect because Wiercioch played like the player he was drafted to be. He played offense and didn't sacrifice on the defensive end, and was rewarded with a plus-two, and a point off an assist from Roman Wick.

Game 18: Binghamton picks up sweet win in Hershey

After being outscored 15-4 in the first two games by Hershey, Binghamton finally defeated the back-to-back Calder Cup champs. Binghamton got on the board early with goals from defenseman Craig Schira and forward Erik Condra. While Hershey was able to tie the game in the second, Binghamton fought hard and Bobby Butler scored the GWG to add to his AHL leading 14 goals. Add the empty net by Roman Wick, and Binghamton gets the monkey off their backs as they get a hard-fought two points.

Brust had 42 saves and an assist tonight. The Bears outshot Binghamton 44-28, but Brust was a wall out there and despite playing in consecutive games. Before tonight's game, Hershey averaged 4.00 goals per game.

BSens Heroes: Colin Greening-Zack Smith-Bobby Bulter
How good is Bobby Butler? In his first pro season he leads the AHL in goals, and came though with the GWG tonight! While Butler may get the credit, Zack Smith made a nice pass to Butler in his return to Binghamton's top line, and Colin Greening came through with excellent work on the boards to free up the puck.

Game 19: Haunted by penalties, Binghamton drops to Hartford in OT

As the title says, penalties killed Binghamton tonight. Hartford went 3-for-7 on the powerplay tonight, and got the GWG when Corey Locke went to the box in OT. But that's not the story tonight. The story tonight was Barry Brust. Yes he was normal fantastic self, getting 40 saves on back-to-back nights. But the stat that really got everyone's attention were his 2 PIMs.

I'm not even shocked anymore by him. Brust made 40 saves today after making 42 saves during last nights game. But the story was how he stepped for teammate Derek Smith after he was taken down by Tim Kennedy. Here's the video, which explains everything.

All the goals scored against Binghamton were on the powerplay, including Corey Locke's holding call in OT that cost Binghamton the game. Binghamton is lucky to have gotten a single point from tonight.

Game 20: Binghamton falls to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 2-1

Binghamton was able to outshoot Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 32-31, but were stopped by Brad Thiessen. Geoff Kinrade scored Binghamton's only goal, but the defense had no answer for Zach Sill and Jesse Boulerice, who both scored two points off a goal and assist.

Thiessen has 31 saves tonight, and was a wall in the net. After tonight's game his record improved to 9-1-0 and GAA of 1.79. There's a reason he's Pittsburgh's top goalie prospect.

The goals scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton came from both these guys. Sill got the Penguins on the board in the second, tying the game at one, and Boulerice scored the GWG in the third to make it 2-1. Both players were credited for assist on each other goals.
