Ottawa Senators Prospect Update - January 9th to 16th
Joel Daccord and Colin White both had impressive weeks.
With a handful of prospects returning from the World Juniors, and the NCAA getting back into the swing of things after the Christmas break, there’s lots happening in the world of Sens prospects. The Belleville Senators also just had a winning week, with a 2-1 record.

Biggest Standouts
Joel Daccord
The Sens’ 199th overall pick in 2015, Daccord has taken over the starting role in Arizona and run with it. With a porous defence in front of him, he’s managed to upkeep a 91.3% save percentage, while facing more shots than any other goalie in the entire NCAA. After having rumours over the summer of potentially heading to Switzerland, it appears Daccord’s made a good decision in staying with Arizona State.
In back-to-back games against UMass-Lowell, Daccord saved 27 of 31 as Arizona lost 4-0. He bounced back the next day, though, recording his first career shutout as he turned away all 28 shots for the 4-0 victory.
Colin White
With the Ottawa Senators on their bye week, White along with a few other prospects were sent to Belleville to keep their feet moving. He made the most of the week, scoring three goals in his two most recent games, in a span where the entire team only scored six.
It started with two goals in Belleville’s 6-2 loss to the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, then he picked up another in their 4-2 win over Hartford. It’s also worth noting that White got a game misconduct in the second game for boarding.
His shooting percentage jumps from 8.8% last week to 13.3%, which is closer to around the 15% he was shooting in the NCAA. After a slow start he looks to be finding his groove, with another NHL call-up in the near future a possibility.

Silver Linings
- Clarkson’s Kelly Summers (I feel like there’s a pun there) added a goal and assist this week to bring his season total to 18, surpassing his previous career high. Now in his senior year, the right shot defenceman is fighting for a contract.
- Drake Batherson has been getting used to his new team in Blainville-Boisbriand, picking up two points in his first two games. One notable change is that he’s been moved to the wing (as opposed to centre in Cape Breton), likely to accommodate for QMJHL leading scorer (by a massive margin) Alex Barré-Boulet. He was also playing right wing for Canada at the World Juniors.
- Batherson also vaulted up Corey Pronman’s prospect rankings (paywall), now up to 35th in the league.
- After a strong start to his AHL call-up, Marcus Hogberg has since been pulled twice mid-game. With all the goaltending trouble Belleville’s had this season, this is the last thing they needed.
- Logan Brown is still recovering from his injury, although should be back soon to play his debut with the Kitchener Rangers.
- Markus Nurmi scored his fifth goal of the season after returning from a strong World Junior tournament. Amongst U20 players in the Liiga, he’s tied for 7th in goals, 8th in assists and 10th in points./
