Senators re-sign Dzingel to two-year, $3.6M deal
The Sens avoid arbitration with the 25-year-old winger
According to reports on Twitter from Tim Wharnsby, the Ottawa Senators and Ryan Dzingel have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $3.6M. As Wharnsby reported, the first year will be worth $1.5M and the second worth $2.1M, so the deal will carry an AAV of $1.8M.

With this deal and the recently-signed extension for Jean-Gabriel Pageau, the Senators have completely avoided arbitration this year.
According to reports, the Sens had offered $1M on a one-year deal and Dzingel had requested $1.95M, so the AAV is much closer to the player’s ask than the team’s offer—but Ottawa benefits from a second year on the deal.
Last year was Dzingel’s first full season in the NHL, and he managed 32P (14G, 18A) in 81GP.
The relatively big leap in salary for the 2018-19 season will make the next year interesting. Ottawa has nearly $55M committed in salary for 2018-19 (including 12 forwards, three defenders and Mike Condon), and Mark Stone, Cody Ceci and Fredrik Claesson are slated to be arbitration-eligible restricted free agents next summer. Pierre Dorion will have some challenging decisions and negotiations ahead of him over the course of this season.
