With tomorrow’s 3pmET NHL Trade Deadline creeping closer and closer, the Ottawa Senators appear to be protecting more assets for a potential trade(s).
With just an hour and half to go before tonight’s tilt against the Calgary Flames, it was announced that the Sens had recalled defenceman Cody Goloubef from Belleville.

Speculation immediately began to run rampant, but a few minutes later, TSN’s Darren Dreger first reported the surprising news that both D Cody Ceci and F Mikkel Boedker would be healthy scratches tonight.
I’m told Cody Ceci will be a healthy scratch as will forward Mikael Boedker. https://t.co/aJvOIcFaQm

With Ottawa holding both players out of the lineup, it appears that they may be close on a possible deal shipping one or both out of the nation’s capital.
Cody Ceci has played all 432 of his NHL games for the Ottawa Senators, having been drafted 15th overall by the club in 2012. With 112 points to his name, Ceci has taken criticism over the past few years for his often costly defensive miscues. He is in the only year of a $4.3M deal, and is a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
With a high demand for right-handed defencemen, there appears to be quite the market for Cody Ceci.

Goloubef will play in his place tonight.
Boedker, on the other hand, was acquired from the San Jose Sharks last summer, in exchange for Mike Hoffman. Generally considered to be an underwhelming return, Boedker has 6 goals and 23 assists for 29 points in 54 games with the Ottawa Senators. His $4M contract expires at the end of next season, and he will be an unrestricted free agent.
Newly-acquired Anthony Duclair will take his spot tonight.
