Ottawa Senators sign Paul MacLean to a three-year extension

While fans are still waiting on an extension for Daniel Alfredsson, there was some good news with the club announcing that Paul MacLean has agreed to a three-year extension. MacLean had one-year left on his original contract and has been a finalist for the Jack Adams trophy in each of his first two seasons with the Senators.

There has been some deserved angst among the fans about the club's lack of spending and repeated statements of internal budgets, but the fact that they were able to convince MacLean about the direction of the club has to be seen as a positive sign.

Under MacLean the Senators have made the playoffs in both seasons including in 2013 with long term injuries to key players such as Erik Karlsson, Jason Spezza and Craig Anderson. Per Ian Mendes this is the first time the Senators have given out an extension to a coach since Jacques Martin.
