Ottawa Senators to face Pittsburgh Penguins in Eastern Conference Final

The two teams will play each other for the fifth time in franchise history

It’s official. With the Pittsburgh Penguins defeating the Washington Capitals in game seven 2-0, they will face the Ottawa Senators in round three for a chance to play in the Stanley Cup Finals. The two franchises have faced off in the playoffs four previous times in their history, most recently in the second round in 2013 (Pittsburgh won 4-1).

Trying to defend their Stanley Cup, the Penguins finished the regular season with a record of 50-21-11 (111 points), good for second in the league. Sidney Crosby was Sidney Crosby in the regular season with 89 points in 75 games, although injury problems have been slowing him down in the playoffs. Evgeni Malkin has been stepping in, though, currently leading the playoffs in scoring with 18 points in 12 games.

But do they have Erik Karlsson? I didn’t think so.

Pittsburgh will have home ice advantage, with game one starting Saturday at 7:00 PM.
