Ottawa Senators Top 25 Under 25, #24: Cody Donaghey

Cody Donaghey isn't yet old enough to order an alcoholic beverage in the United States, but he's already been traded several times at what seems like every level of hockey.
The St. John's, Newfoundland, native started moving from team to team when he was 16-years-old and hasn't stayed put in one place for very long since. In his first year of junior hockey, Donaghey was traded from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies to the Quebec Remparts, where he would play for less than two season before getting moved to the Halifax Mooseheads in the 2015 offseason. He began the 2015-16 campaign in Halifax, but 22 games into the season, he would don the Moncton Wildcats sweater.
And finally, before he had ever played a single game of professional hockey, Donaghey found himself moving from the Toronto Maple Leafs' organization to the Ottawa Senators, after he had signed an entry-level contract with Toronto in 2014. The now 20-year-old was one of many parts in the trade that saw himself, Dion Phaneuf, Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey and Ryan Rupert swapped for Colin Greening, Milan Michalek and Jared Cowen, Tobias Linberg and a second round pick in 2017.
An offense-oriented defenseman, Donaghey has put up solid numbers in the QMJHL. Set to join the Binghamton Senators in the AHL next season, he finished his junior career with 97 points in 183 games.
Donaghey went undrafted, signing a contract with Toronto reportedly because of his work ethic and fitness. He's had some injury problems, the most recent in late 2014 after a knee-on-knee hit would mean surgery in January of 2015 and a long recovery process.
