Ottawa Senators Ups and Downs: Week 7
Who's trending up and who's trending down after a mediocre week?
Well, that was a pretty great week. Four games, four regulation wins, and now the Senators are top-five in the entire league. Also, the Sens beat two of the teams ahead of them in the Canadiens and the Rangers. Things are looking pretty bright.
Biggest gains: Mark Stone
There were a few candidates for this spot, but five points (including three against Carey Price and the Habs!) puts him up here.
Biggest losses: Andrew Hammond
He refused a conditioning stint in Binghamton, which got him sent there through waivers so he could actually play there. Despite PR Dorion's positivity, you could still tell this move essentially means Condon has passed Hammond on the depth chart. Looks like our burger-throwin' days may be coming to an end.
Goaltenders | Trend | Notes |
Craig Anderson | Can't pin the Florida loss on him, but you can't give an up-arrow to a goalie who put up an .826 once this week
Mike Condon | Can't pin the Preds' loss on him, but it wasn't good either. At least he got Hammond sent to the minors
Andrew Hammond | I started singin' "Bye, bye, this here Hamburglar guy..."
Defensemen | ||
Mark Borowiecki | He says Boucher's system is the most fun he's ever had playing hockey
Cody Ceci | Fine week for Ceci
Fredrik Claesson | No games for Steady Freddie this week
Erik Karlsson | Only one point, but my goodness, he's so good
Marc Methot | He's exactly what we expect of him
Dion Phaneuf | Fine with his week - would you believe he's second on this team in shots on goal?
Chris Wideman | And Wideman completes a week of neutrals for every defenceman
Forwards | ||
Derick Brassard | Hey, he got a goal this week!
Ryan Dzingel | Got told he'd be staying with the big club all year, and hey, he also looks to be a mainstay in the top six with all the injuries
Mike Hoffman | Sounds like he's nearing a return
Chris Kelly | I need to give someone a down arrow, and Kelly being the worst possession forward on the team this week gets it
Clarke MacArthur | Hi Clarke
Chris Neil | He's still here, and I still have no issues with it. He's only 10 games from 1000
Jean-Gabriel Pageau | A goal this week, and it could've been four. He looks like he's finding his offensive chances
Matt Puempel | Lost him on waivers to the Rangers. As the kids say, nbd.
Tom Pyatt | When Pyatt's not on the top line, I don't notice him, which I'm more than glad about
Bobby Ryan | With Ryan and Hoffman out, the Sens lost most of their goal-scoring threats
Zack Smith | I have very little to say about Z.
Mark Stone | Two points this week - badly-needed offence for this team's best forward
Kyle Turris | And two more points for Turris, pushing him up near the team lead in points |
