The Leafs take a 3-1 stranglehold and the Hurricanes re-take the series lead

Tuesday night featured just two games on the NHL playoff schedule, with one of them easily stealing the spotlight. Despite just the two games with one of them being quite dull, at least we got another overtime game, with one of them being the third game in a row for that series!

Yesterday’s Games:

Toronto Maple Leafs 4, Montreal Canadiens 0, TOR leads series 3-1

I’ve got to say, for a matchup that was dreamed about for the longest time, this series has been a bit of a dud. The Canadiens looked lifeless once again, and perhaps some of that is due to the Maple Leafs playing quite solid over the past three games. Jack Campbell was great once again, and he’s now allowed just two goals in those three wins.

Our old pal Alex Galchenyuk actually had three points last night, although his goal came from an empty-netter. Still though, Toronto has done well without captain John Tavares, and Montreal looks like a team that doesn’t belong. The Canadiens might be able to squeak out one more win, but I can’t foresee the Leafs blowing this one (wink wink).

Nashville Predators 2, Carolina Hurricanes 3 (OT), CAR leads 3-2

In contrast to the Leafs and Habs, this has been quite the series so far. Just like the Oilers and Jets series, the Hurricanes and Predators have now played in three straight overtime games, with Carolina getting the most recent win. It would’ve been a massive disappointment for them to go up 2-0 in the series (while deserving to win) only to go down 3-2 after three straight overtime losses, but Martin Necas and Jordan Staal were there to save the day with the game-tying and game-winning goals.

Carolina still needs to finish the job in either game 6 or 7, and Nashville shouldn’t be counted out just yet. Juuse Saros is always capable of stealing a few games, so this should be a fascinating final game or two. It’s also been great to see the atmosphere in both cities as you can tell how elated they are that fans are back for hockey games.

Tonight’s Games:

Game 6: Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Islanders - 6:30 pm EST (NYI leads 3-2)

Game 6: Florida Panthers @ Tampa Bay Lightning - 8:00 pm EST (TBL leads 3-2)

Game 6: Vegas Golden Knights @ Minnesota Wild - 9:00 pm EST (VGK leads 3-2)
