PWHL Confirms Broadcast and Streaming Details for Inaugural Season
All Ottawa games will be broadcast on TV and available to stream on Youtube
The last big piece of the puzzle for the PWHL has fallen into place, just three days before the puck drops on the inaugural season.
The league announced in a press release this morning that all 72 games will be available for people to watch both via broadcast partners and on the league's YouTube channel.
Ottawa's games will be broadcast on CBC/Radio-Canada, TSN/RDS and Sportsnet. Fans will also be able to watch the games on YouTube. The league has confirmed that the YouTube streams will be available outside of Canada.
The PWHL has also announced the broadcast team for the inaugural game between Toronto and New York, which will take place on New Year's Day. With the likes of Hailey Salvian, Saroya Tinker and Tessa Bonhomme in the booth, as well as Andi Petrillo, Daniella Ponticelli, Cheryl Pounder and Anastasia Bucsis, it's an absolutely start-studded lineup that indicates that a lot of effort has gone into doing the league justice.
It's hard to overstate the importance of this news. Having games available to watch both on broadcast and streaming should be the bare minimum, but it's not something professional women's hockey has had in the past. Plus, by guaranteeing that everyone will be able to watch the games, the PWHL has actually surpassed the NHL when it comes to the accessibility of their games.
Ottawa opens their season at home against Montreal on January 2nd at 7pm ET. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS, and streamed on the PWHL YouTube channel.
