PWHL Ottawa Announces First Three Signings
Canadian Olympians Brianne Jenner, Emily Clark and Emerance Maschmeyer will call Ottawa home for the next three years
Five days into the PWHL's free agency period, we finally have our signings!
PWHL Ottawa was the first team to announce their players, and all three are names that fans might recognize from Team Canada.
Brianne Jenner is a veteran forward with Team Canada and has been one of the top women's hockey players in the world for many years. She played for the Calgary Inferno of the CWHL from 2015 to 2019, and then for Toronto in the PWHPA. On top of being a top-line player who can play centre or wing, she's an important part of Team Canada's leadership group, and seems like an obvious choice for the captaincy.
Emily Clark is a 27-year-old centre and was one of the top players in the PWHPA last year. She's always been more of a depth piece on team Canada, but, as her numbers with Team Harvey's last year demonstrate, has a real offensive touch that really shows when she's playing higher in the lineup. She's an excellent player all around and will make a great addition to the new team.
Emerance Maschmeyer is one of the top goaltenders in women's hockey. She backed up Ann-Renée Desbiens at the last Olympics, but the fact that she was a backup is a testament to Canada's depth at the position; she's a fantastic starter in her own right. Ottawa has stability in net for years to come. Also, maybe she and Brady Tkachuk can bond over their mutual love of crocs.
According to Hailey Salvian, all three are on three-year deals:
Ottawa will not be able to sign any more players until after the draft, which is scheduled for September 18th.
