Jared Cowen D 2009-2010

Born in Saskatoon in 1991, Cowen was drafted 9th overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2009. Cowen spent four years with the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL. His first season of junior hockey was quite successful; he helped with Chiefs win the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions and Cowen scored an empty net goal against the Kitchener Rangers to clinch the Memorial Cup. His second season was marred by a serious knee injury. While still recovering from his knee injury, Cowen was drafted by the Senators in 2009. When Spokane was eliminated from the playoffs in 2010, was called up and made his NHL debut wearing #48. Cowen twice represented Canada at the World Juniors, winning silver in 2010 and 2011. Cowen was returned to his junior team for the 2010-2011 season, joining the Binghamton Senators in time for the Calder Cup run in 2011. Cowen made the Senators out of training camp for the 2011-2012 season and played all 82 games during his rookie season, wearing #2. Assigning to the Sens AHL team during the 2012 NHL lockout, he suffered a serious hip injury (torn labrum) in October, 2012. Expected to miss the rest of the season, Cowen returned to the lineup on April 16, 2013.
